Adaptive skating - it's the coolest!

The DCR's Universal Access program is the coolest! Use your wheelchair, an ice sled, or conventional skates on the ice! There's no describing the feeling as you spin, slide, race, slalom, socialize and play gently competitive games with others! Ice sleds and conventional skates available. For more information or to register, call 617-626-1294 to register or email Gigi Ranno. To volunteer, contact Marcy Marcello.

Transport Yourself on a Day Trip!

Take the Red Line to Harvard Square, hop the Blue Line to the Aquarium, take the Commuter Rail to Ipswich - or any number of trains or buses to Boston Common for an afternoon of skating at Frog Pond. A day of riding buses and trains can be a a great day trip in itself for many children, and an added bonus is that it's also a great way to teach your kids about the environmental benefits of public transportation. There's even the water taxi at Boston Harbor! A great site for determining how to get from point A to point B via train, bus, boat, or foot is HopStop. The site works for Boston - and New York, Washington D.C., San Francisco, and Chicago. The MBTA has a great site, too.

Skating Photos from Frog Pond, Boston

We can't believe that this was a first for the Day Tripper Divas. What a fabulous time we had, despite the 20-minute wait in line to get in to the skating rink at Frog Pond at Boston Common. Crowded, yes - but manageable with kids ages 6, 7, 11, and 12. We even survived a hot chocolate spill (bring extra clothes, especially in cold weather). Enjoy!
